Meet the TeamTim Pitt – Trainer
Who is Tim Pitt? Hopefully the next few lines will explain a previously unknown man.
Tim Pitt is the son of an engineer from Derbyshire, with no family background in racing. However from an early age Tim’s ambition was to train racehorses. This hunger was created from following the racing action at midlands racetracks with his family since an early age and then he took his interest a step further. After completing an equine business course at Witney College, Oxford, Tim became pupil-assistant to Jim Old for the 94/95 jumps season. Following this he moved only a short distance from Swindon to Marlborough to work for Peter Chapple-Hyam at Manton.
Tim spent five happy seasons with Peter, during which prolific winners Spectrum, Carmine Lake and Revoque flowed from the state of the art training complex on the Manton Estate. Following Peter’s departure to Hong Kong, he remained at Manton as an assistant trainer to John Gosden for a further two years, where high profile winners Lahan, Crystal Music and Observatory were also produced. After a long happy period at Manton, Tim accepted an offer as assistant trainer to Gerard Butler at Churn Stables near Blewbury and was associated with racecourse performers Beauchamp Pilot, Shield, Swiss Lake and Nayyir. In the autumn of 2005 Tim made the transition from assistant to a licensed trainer at Martin Grange in Bawtry near Doncaster. In just eighteen months Tim trained the winners of 33 races and earned over £600,000 in win and place prize money. Notable successes included Dual Group One winning sprinter Les Arcs, Chester Cup winner Admiral and listed two year old winner Not For Me. In September 2007 Tim and his family moved to the Lower Yard at Norton Grange near Malton in Yorkshire, and now rent the yard from Tim Fitzgerald. In the short time since then Tim Pitt Racing has grown from one horse and a handful of promises to having around fifteen horses in training. Here at Norton Grange another unfolding chapter of my training career continues, but one thing can be assured with the support of my wife Amanda and a dedicated team of staff and back up teams we are totally committed to both the success, growth and longevity of our training venture. The TeamAmanda Pitt
Amanda's knowledge of horses and racing has come along way in the seven years that Tim and Amanda have been married. Although a non-rider Amanda is not afraid of rolling up her sleeves and mucking in, taking on numerous responsibilities on the yard. She is pictured right with son Michael and Cadwell. "Behind every successful man is a strong woman" and Amanda is a perfect example, she not only is the office supremeo but her post gallop breakfast’s and dinner parties come highly recommended by our current owners! Stu Ritchie
Stu (pictured on the right)has worked for meback in 2006 before having a stint working in Japan and running a breaking and pre-training yard near Doncaster. He rejoined the team in the summer of 2008 and is an experienced horseman who is a great assset to any team. He has more bottle than a coca cola factory and is one of the best riders I have had the priviledge to work alongside. Stu is also one of lifes jokers and will constantly bring a smile and a laugh to even the most dullest of mornings!
